I wanna be like Mrs. Elner Shimfissle

I'm reading a wonderful book, Can't wait to get to Heaven, by Fannie Flagg, where the main character is Elner, an old lady that dies in the first pages of this book.
The point is, that I really would become like her. She's thankful for EVERYTHING. Onions, insects, cakes, dawns, sunsets, stars....everything.
I always read before falling asleep (on my bed, not on sofa!), and this book is so wonderful...and I really think I'm a very stupid girl, because I have soooooo many things, and I focus on things that I don't have!
So I started to make a list of all the things I'm thankful.....it's quite endless....

  1. I totally totally agree! I am always so thankful for everything. See, I lived in Ghana and Tansania and I know poeple from Laos, Pakistan, Afghanistan etc. I saw how people were almost starving and how really poor people live without elecrecity, without clothes, without water... so this is why I am SO thankful for everything I have. Every day! We are SO lucky :)
    Lots of love!

  2. We live in a world with so many distractions. We constantly have carrots dangling in front of us. I've felt very convicted lately for my shopping habits and realized that these are things I don't need and like you said needing to be grateful for what I have.

God is good and He will provide. (:

  3. Dear Beina: I love what you've stated in this post! because it is true, often we focus on things we do not want, when we are unaware of the wonderful things that if God has given us and for which we must be grateful. I think the most important and that we simply can not miss the love, without it nothing would make sense. nothing else is.

    many kisses.

  4. Beina, what a beautiful post, it's true, we have so many things to be thankful for and most of the time we do not realize it!! The book sounds lovely, I will look it up for when I finish the four books that I still have pending, you see, I also read at night in bed, but only for about 5 minutes because I always fall asleep!

  6. I love to read as well & I do try to read everyday before I go to bed. I think it's great to make a list here & there of all the things that we're thankful for! It makes us feel more complete & reminded :)
